Mana was the first supermarket chain to open in Czechoslovakia on June 6, 1991 . Compared to other Czech shops of its time, Mana was the only one of its kind in the country and at one time the only one that had such an extensive range. The first branch was opened in the Březinky settlement in Jihlava . Another store opened a week later, this time in Praha (Prague) . It was the most visited shop in the Czech Republic. There have even been cases where buses arrived to go shopping in Mana with customers from Slovakia .

Mana was a subsidiary supermarket chain of the Dutch company Ahold , which did not open its stores in any other country outside of Czechoslovakia. In the Czech Republic , the Mana stores were finally closed in 1999 when they were replaced by Julius Meinl . The residents of Jihlava were very unhappy after the business was closed and the city saw a drastic decline in tourists from other cities.
