Manama ( Arabic منامة, DMG Manāma ) is next to Masfut the smaller of the two exclaves of the Emirate of Ajman in the United Arab Emirates with an area of 26 km². The exclave is surrounded by Sharjah and Fujairah and is 73 km east of Ajman City . The main livelihood of the population is agriculture , and there is also a small base of the UAE armed forces there .
At the 2017 census, the city had a population of 5823 on an area of 25.73 km², which corresponds to a population density of 226.3 inhabitants per km².
The small territory gained international fame among philatelists at the end of the 1960s , when Manama formed a postal area with its own stamp issues. For the period from July 5, 1966 to July 31, 1972, the Michel catalog lists 1,255 different postage stamps with the inscription Manama / Dependency of Ajman . These stamps were primarily aimed at collectors and for some issues it is not known whether they were ever used in the post.
