Manfalut ( Arabic منفلوط, DMG Manfalūṭ ) is a city in the Central Egyptian governorate of Asyut . It is the administrative center of the Manfalut district. Manfalut had around 84,000 inhabitants in 2005.
The city is located on the western bank of the Nile and is the starting point of the ancient Darb at-Tawil caravan route to Balat . Today there is a passenger station in the city on the Alexandria - Luxor , Asyut - Giza , Asyut - al-Minya , Cairo Ramses Station - Aswan Dam , Luxor - Port Said and al-Minya - Sohag lines .
The city is the seat of a titular bishopric of the Coptic Church . The ancient Egyptian Dara necropolis with the Chui pyramid is located near Manfalut . About 12 km east of Manfalut is the village of Deir el-Gebrawi with a necropolis of the same name.
