Manfred Eichel (born July 9, 1938 in Schwelm ) is a German journalist , filmmaker and university lecturer .

Life

Eichel grew up in Gevelsberg . His father was a businessman. He currently lives and works in Berlin .

Education

1960 to 1967 he completed a general course in Hamburg, Berlin, Münster and then again in Hamburg. In 1967 he passed his first state examination in history and English at Hamburg University.

Career history

Eichel got his first job as an editor at " Spiegel " (1967 to 1971). After four years of freelance work for NDR television (1971 to 1975), Eichel took over as editor-in-chief and presenter of the television magazine “Kultur aktuell” on N3 (1975 to 1992) and from 1989 also the NDR editions of the ARD magazine “Kulturreport” for the first program.

After 19 years with NDR, Eichel moved to ZDF in Mainz in 1992 to take over the management and, alternating with Carola Wedel and later Luzia Braun, the moderation of the cultural magazine “ aspekte ” (until 1999). A year later he also became head of the feature editorial team for “Literature and Art” (1993 to 1999) and the “Literary Quartet” (1993 to 2001). In January 2000 he - now as ZDF's chief correspondent for culture - directed three-quarter and full-hour cultural reports from all over the world under the heading “Hot Spot”. Manfred Eichel was responsible for more than 600 programs for ARD and ZDF and moderated most of them.

Honors

In 1988 Manfred Eichel was awarded the “ Alexander Zinn Prize ” by the Hamburg Senate for “outstanding work as a cultural journalist” .

Teaching

In addition to his journalistic work, Eichel also worked for the Goethe Institute from 1988 to 1992: as a seminar leader in Manila, Philippines, and in Guangzhou, China, where he worked with colleagues on site to create zero numbers for regional television culture magazines. As a lecturer at the Goethe Institute, he reported on cultural programs on German television in Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Since 1988 he has been a lecturer at the University of the Arts Berlin in the department of social and business communication. In 1992 he was appointed honorary professor for television journalism. From 2001 onwards he and other colleagues built up the postgraduate course in "Cultural Journalism", of which he was a member of the executive committee in 2005 and 2006.
