Manfred Frankowski (born January 27, 1942 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

At the beginning of the 1963/64 season Frankowski moved from Duisburg FV 08 to the regional league club Rot-Weiss Essen . Under coach Fred Harthaus , he made 22 league games in the debut year of the Football Regionalliga West and scored two goals alongside teammates Eckehard Feigenspan , Werner Kik and Heinz-Dieter Hasebrink . The team from Hafenstrasse took tenth place. In his second year at RWE, he was only able to play one association game due to injuries. When Essen won the runner-up behind Fortuna Düsseldorf with coach Fritz Pliska in the 1965/66 season , he was back in the regular line-up with 26 appearances and three goals. In the successful BL promotion round against FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC Schweinfurt 05, he played in all six games. Willi Lippens opened his career with 32 games and 14 goals and the experienced ex-Schalke Willi Koslowski also contributed to the promotion to the Bundesliga.

In the Bundesliga round of 1966/67 , the two west climbers Fortuna Düsseldorf and RW Essen went back to the regional league immediately. Frankowski came on 29 missions and scored one goal. Despite the newcomers Fred-Werner Bockholt , Peter Dietrich , Heinz Simmet and Jürgen Glinka , Rot-Weiss crashed in the second half of the season. After the direct relegation he stayed with the Essenes and played two more years in the Regionalliga West . In the 1967/68 season he came under the young coach Erich Ribbeck to 28 games with two goals and again celebrated winning the runner-up in the Regionalliga West. In the promotion round, RWE took second place behind the promoted Hertha BSC and had to stay in the regional league for another year. At the renewed runner-up in 1968/69 he could only be active in one game for food.

He played a total of 113 games for Essen, in which he scored 8 goals. Of these, 29 appearances were made in the 1966/67 season in the Bundesliga, where he scored a goal for RWE.
