Manfred Günther (born August 31, 1938 ) is a former German soccer player .

Athletic career

Günther began his career at ASV Bergedorf 85 , for which he played in the Oberliga Nord . In 1962, after 34 league games in which he had scored three goals, he moved to TSG Ulm 1846 , which had been promoted to the Oberliga Süd . With his new club he finished eighth in the league table in the final season of the southern league after ten wins, draws and defeats . he had scored one goal in 16 games. Two more seasons followed in the second-rate Regionalliga Süd , which was newly established after the introduction of the Bundesliga , before he had to move into the third division after 57 regional league games with the club. Meanwhile promoted to team captain , he remained loyal to the club. At the beginning of the first season in the first amateur league - after the originally planned new coach had canceled shortly before the start of the season - his father Paul Günther took over as coach for the first four games of the season, before a new head coach was found in Krešimir Arapović .
