Athletic career

In 1964, the 21-year-old striker Manfred Jatzek rose with TSG Wismar from the third-rate district league to the GDR league. There he was in the 1964/65 season with 26 appearances and seven goals regular TSG player. At the beginning of the 1965/66 season he moved to league competitor TSC Berlin. In the first half of the season he was only used in five league games, scored two goals and was then only called up in the TSC II district league team.

For the second half of 1966 Jatzek returned to TSG Wismar and played 13 of the 14 remaining games by the end of the season and came up with two more goals. Until 1972 he was again a regular at TSG, in six seasons he played 156 of the 172 league games. In 1967 and 1970, TSG Wismar was the top scorer with eleven and six goals respectively. In 1972 TSG was the relay winner in the GDR league and participated in the promotion round to the GDR league . However, with fourth place out of five applicants, the promotion was missed. Jatzek was used in all eight qualifying games, and he scored twice. In 1972/73 he played his last season for TSG Wismar, in which he only played two league games.

At the beginning of the 1973/74 season, Jatzek settled in Thuringia and joined the district division TSG Ruhla. With him he became district champion at the end of the season and rose to the GDR league. 1974/75 he played one more season in the GDR league, was used in all 22 league games and scored one more goal. Since TSG Ruhla did not manage to stay in the league, the 32-year-old Jatzek ended his career as a football player in the higher class. There he had played 224 GDR league games and scored 55 goals within ten seasons. He then took over the training of the Ruhla team, which he led again in the GDR league in 1982 and was able to hold there for two seasons. Later he also worked as a coach for the district league team of Motor Gotha .
