Manfred Karnetzki

Manfred Karnetzki (born November 28, 1928 in Berlin ; † December 24, 2008 there ) was a German Protestant pastor.

Life

Karnetzki began his pastoral work in the auxiliary service of the Berlin Church and continued this in the refugee camp Berlin-Düppel and in the Evangelical Academy in West Berlin . In 1960, he was pastor of the parish Schlachtensee and in 1975 he was also superintendent of the church district of Zehlendorf .

Manfred Karnetzki was a member of the Christian Peace Conference and took part as a delegate at the 5th All-Christian Peace Assembly in June 1978 in Prague .

With the “Church in Society” initiative, which he founded in the late 1960s, he became increasingly involved in evangelical adult education. From 1986 to 1993 he was director of the Evangelical Educational Center in Berlin, which at that time also included the Evangelical Academy. The focus of his work here was dealing with and coming to terms with Nazi history.

Karnetzki was a long-standing and active member of the Action Reconciliation / Peace Services (ASF). As its chairman from 1993 to 2001, he was committed to the merging of the various organizations in East Germany with the old organization.

In 2006 he received the Federal Cross of Merit . He delivered his last sermon in the Church of St. Peter and Paul on Nikolskoe on January 27, 2008 in memory of the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz .
