In the GDR league season 1964/65 he guarded the goal of the chemists in 29 of 30 point games, but they did not make it through to relegation. It was not until the 1967/68 season that BSG Chemie was promoted to the GDR league again. Kaschel was part of the squad again in the 1968/69 season, but was only used in two league games in the GDR league.

In the course of the season 1968/69 Kaschel moved to the upper division FC Karl-Marx-Stadt. Although he did not play any league games, he was in the final of the GDR soccer cup, which FC lost 4-0 against 1. FC Magdeburg 4-0, after the 3-0 in 61st minute for goalkeeper Joachim Gröper in the goal posed. For the league season 1969/70 Kaschel was nominated as the third goalkeeper, but played ten of the thirteen point games in the first half of the season and made thirteen missions by the end of the season. Since the FCK then relegated, Kaschel had to play again in the GDR league. He established himself as a regular goalkeeper with 24 appearances in 30 point games. At the end of the 1970/71 season, the Karl-Marx-Städter rose again to the top division. For 1971/72 a new goalkeeper was signed with Ralf Kunze , and with only seven league appearances, Kaschel slipped back into the second row. After that he no longer played in higher-class football.
