Manfred Kupfer (born November 7, 1948 ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the East German Football Association. He played there for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig .

Kupfer grew up in Lucka, East Thuringia, near Altenburg, and began his football career there at SG Lucka. At the age of 16 he was already playing with the men's team in the district class. After completing his school education, he completed an apprenticeship as a lathe operator. In early 1967, Kupfer switched to the district league activist Wintersdorf, who in autumn of the same year delegated him to the region’s football focus, 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig.

There, copper initially played in the 3rd and 2nd team. When Lok Leipzig had to play in the second-rate GDR league after his relegation in the 1969/70 season , copper was part of the first team for the first time. With his 29 game stakes and seven goals, he played a significant role in the Leipzig's immediate resurgence. With his height of 1.70 m and a weight of 64 kg, he earned the nickname “fly”. Even when Lok Leipzig reached the final of the GDR soccer cup as a second division team , copper was in the final team, which however lost 2: 4 to FC Vorwärts Berlin. In his first league season in 1970/71, Kupfer belonged to the player base as a left winger from the start and played 25 of the 26 point games. Also in 1971/72 he was one of the main forces of his team with 19 league point games. In the 1972/73 season, Kupfer suffered a career dip. He was only used seven times in the first half of the season, and only played one game over 90 minutes. However, he was used again in the 1973 cup final that 1. FC Lok had reached again, but also lost again, this time against 2: 3 against 1. FC Magdeburg. Up until his substitution in the 72nd minute, Kupfer played in his former position as a left winger. After copper had only been considered in nine league point games in the 1973/74 season and was then only used in the 2nd team, he left 1. FC Lok in 1976, for which he played 60 league games with four goals, 29 GDR league - Point games with seven goals and 13 GDR cup games with three goals.

In the summer of 1976, Kupfer joined the BSG Stahl Nordwest Leipzig , playing in the fourth class district class of Leipzig , with which he was promoted to the district league after a year. Copper never returned to higher-class football.
