The Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation is characterized by the breadth of its funding areas. She wants to directly improve people's living conditions and through her work support a better society through science and innovation.
Funding priorities
Children and young people
- 2015: Nationwide initiative: Children should be able to swim better. The concept developed by the Institute for Sport and Sport Science at the University of Heidelberg with the support of the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation relies on small learning groups, playful pedagogy and positive learning experiences.
- 2014: Completion of the regional project “Reading Start”: In the Heidelberg area, the campaign has already reached 12,000 families since it started in 2007. Immediately after the birth of their child in the University Women's Clinic, all families received a reading start set sponsored by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation with a picture book and information material on the subject of reading aloud.
- 2014: Young literature fans want to encourage other young people to read. There are also workshops at schools that are financed by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation.
- 2014: The ADFC Heidelberg starts a racing and mountain bike meeting for young people. With the support of the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation, 22 racing bikes and eight mountain bikes are available.
- 2005–2010: Together with Kindernothilfe, 80 new schools were built in Ethiopia . Since 2005, 30,000 students have been taught by 200 teachers.
Science and Research
- 2012: Type 2 diabetes study is supported with 1.5 million euros by the foundation.
- 2012: A valuable medieval manuscript collection was digitized in the Vatican . The project was essentially financed by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation in Heidelberg.
- 2010: One million for cancer research : Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation supports the development of new vaccines against cancer.
Tolerance and integration
- 2014: The General Secretary of the Göttingen-based Society for Threatened Peoples , Tilman Zülch , receives the European Citizenship Award for Sinti and Roma . The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros. The prize is awarded by the Documentation and Culture Center , the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma and the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation.
- 2014: With his film “ Show Racism the Red Card ”, Timian Hopf shows that racism, hostility towards gays and lesbians and sexism are still omnipresent in football. Since the founding of this educational initiative, more than 3000 children and young people have been reached in over 180 workshops. The project is supported by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation.
Regional funding
- 2016: The second Heidelberg Dance Biennale was funded by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation in addition to the city and the state.
- 2015: The Heidelberg Stückemarkt's authors' prize was awarded to Lukas Linder for the play "The Man from Oklahoma". The prize has been awarded by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation since 2008 and is endowed with 10,000 euros.
- 2014: The Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation financed the modernization of lecture hall 13 at Heidelberg University with 1.2 million euros.
Awards and grants
- 2015: The Indologist Axel Michaels received the Lautenschläger Research Prize endowed with 250,000 euros . It is advertised every two years and promotes international scientific collaborations.
- 2015: The sculptor and painter Michael Lingrên was awarded the Willibald Kramm Prize financed by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation.
- 2014: 20 scholarship holders were nominated for the “Medical Excellence” 2014 program of the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation. For the sixth time, the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation supports top medical students with a three-year scholarship.
- 2014: The Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation founded the “ MINT Excellence” initiative to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the natural sciences and technical professions.
