history

RTL regional window

The broadcast began in 1986 . RNF is thus the oldest German private regional broadcaster. It started as a window program Monday to Friday on RTL Television via the cable network in the Rhine-Neckar triangle. The regional program RNF Life was broadcast there at 6:05 p.m. and later at 6 p.m. At the same time, RNF has since then also acted as a regional studio for RTL and delivers reports from the Rhine-Neckar triangle and the entire south-west of Germany. The evening live program on RTL, which usually also has a live audience in the studio, grew to a length of 45 minutes a day (airtime 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.) and included current news and occasional performances by artists also various series of programs and guides, such as B. for cinema ( movie time ) or cooking ( telekook ), ready. RNF was also known in the region for a long time for the bumper sticker competition Zeig's mir.

Over time, the range of programs was expanded, and in 1988 a program in the morning (later name: Lifetime ) was added, which was broadcast from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on RTL. This program was aimed primarily at shift workers, which is why, in addition to the latest news, it also contained repetitions of content from RNF Life the evening before. The third expansion on RTL was a short news update every day at around 8:06 p.m. after the RTL program Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten . In 1994, co-founder and editor-in-chief Bert Siegelmann took over Rhein-Neckar-Fernsehen from the previous owner, the media group Dr. Haas GmbH, to which daily newspapers such as Mannheimer Morgen , numerous regional newspapers and media companies belong.

After 10 years, the RTL regional window, which has an order volume of 1.4 million euros, was scheduled to be re-awarded in 2016. In addition to RNF, the company Zone 7 from Ludwigsburg, which had already produced news items for national programs for Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland , also applied. The responsible committees could not agree: Rhineland-Palatinate preferred zone 7 and in Baden-Württemberg the committees did not come to an amicable solution. Therefore, RNF and Zone 7 were commissioned to find a common solution. At the end of March, shortly before the April 1st award deadline, RNF withdrew its application to avoid lengthy lawsuits. In return, it received an order from Zone 7 to continue production of the regional window until July 31, 2017. After that, RON TV went on air on this slot.

Own transmitter RNFplus

On September 16, 1996, the 24-hour transmitter RNFplus was launched for the tenth birthday . In this metropolitan area television , some previous RNF Life program items were launched as independent programs (including Telekoch, Profil ), but also some new series such as B. Down to business and The week created. However, the program is still largely based on the repeatedly repeated RNF Life magazine with the tried and tested concept, which was shortened to 30 minutes in the course of the creation of RNFplus.

The morning program Lifetime was also broadcast several times in the morning in RNFplus. In the course of time, however, this was discontinued on both RTL and RNFplus (there initially shortened as the news overview RNF aktuell ). The news overview at 8:06 p.m. on RTL was also discontinued with the repetition of RNF Life on RNFplus. However, the program RNF Life at 6 p.m. will continue to be broadcast on RTL and, thanks to the cooperation with RTL, will continue to contain nationwide advertising from RTL.

In addition to programs produced in-house, the RNFplus program also contains some purchased programs that are either produced by other regional broadcasters or sold to several regional broadcasters in Germany. From April 2001 to July 2002 the cover program of Suntv was broadcast. In SunTV there was a program offering the Kirch Group , which was acquired solely by various metropolitan stations in Germany, which shows like Blondes Gift with Barbara Schöneberger and WIB-swing with Wigald Boning in the transmission area of RNF were receivable. In the course of the insolvency of the Kirch Group, Suntv discontinued this shell program. Later, RNFplus also took over some programs from Bahn TV , the now discontinued Deutsche Bahn television station, to fill the gap .

When the program is not running, there is the Infoline, a kind of screen newspaper , or programs from other TV stations are taken over. When the program started in 1996, Der Wetterkanal was initially taken over, and then Home Order Television after it was discontinued . After this can be received in the entire broadcasting area on its own channels in the cable network, the program of the Bloomberg TV and RTL Shop channels is now being taken over temporarily , as well as Astro TV since October 2005 . In order to give other regional broadcasters the opportunity to broadcast Europe-wide, one hour in the program between 8.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. was released in October 2004 in which the regional magazines of R.TV from Karlsruhe and TV Südbaden from Freiburg im Breisgau im As part of the RNFplus program.

A teletext service (RNF-Text) is also offered via RNFplus .

With the start of broadcasting on May 1, 2011, the broadcaster Baden TV took over the R.TV.

Rhein-Neckar television (from 2017)

After losing the RTL window in 2017, Rhein-Neckar Fernsehen expanded its online offering and continued to broadcast its program on the RNFplus channels, including the 6 p.m. program from the former RTL window. However, the loss of income from the RTL window could not be compensated, so that in July 2018 Rhein-Neckar Fernsehen applied for planned insolvency in self-administration at the Mannheim district court . Broadcasting continues, but costs have to be reduced considerably. The media group Dr. Haas announced that it would take over Rhein-Neckar Fernsehen.

Insolvency proceedings were opened at the end of September 2019. The media group Dr. Haas announced to withdraw from the linear TV market. The insolvency administrator announced that he would like to check whether a restructuring concept is possible and wants to continue broadcasting with the remaining liquid funds.

history

When it started broadcasting on September 16, 1986, the window program was initially only shown in the cable networks in Ludwigshafen and the Vorderpfalz . On October 1st, Mannheim and the surrounding area of Baden were added. In 1987 the transmission area was expanded to include Heidelberg , the rest of the Rhein-Neckar district and the Hessian district of Bergstrasse . From 1990 there is an additional broadcast via antenna from Heidelberg and Bruchsal together with RTL. In 1992 the southern Palatinate was also supplied via cable.

When RNFplus started broadcasting, the program was fed into almost all cable networks in which RNF Life could also be seen. Only in the southern Palatinate and in the Bergstrasse district could the program not be fed. In the Bergstrasse district, this was mainly due to the Hessian media law, which did not allow regional television. In order to avoid this, a terrestrial broadcast of RNFplus was started from the telecommunications tower in Ludwigshafen in 1998 , so that the program in the Bergstrasse district could be received via antenna as usual and thus fed into the cable network. However, due to the weak transmission power, this only worked in the western part of the Bergstrasse district around Viernheim and Lampertheim , where RNF was also most demanded.

Over time, however, the Hessian media law was changed and so with the beginning of satellite broadcasting, the terrestrial broadcasting from Ludwigshafen was also given up, since the feed can now take place via this route. The satellite broadcast also made it possible to supply the southern Palatinate, the rest of the Bergstrasse district around Bensheim and Heppenheim and the rear Neckar-Odenwald district around Buchen with RNFplus. Broadcasting via satellite was introduced in addition to the additionally achievable number of direct satellite viewers, also for the reason that the now numerous cable network operators in the triangle were given the opportunity to simply feed the signal into their networks.

The terrestrial broadcast from Bruchsal was also given up some time ago. a. also because Bruchsal is now supplied by R.TV, the regional broadcaster from Karlsruhe. The terrestrial signal from the telecommunications tower in Heidelberg (Königstuhl) was switched off in summer 2007.
