The church tower was built in the Baroque style in the first half of the 18th century. In 1887 the church was extensively rebuilt. The nave was completely dismantled and rebuilt. An eaves cornice was added.

In the 20th century the church could not be used in winter for a long time. After the installation of a heated winter church , services have been taking place again since 1995 . The "Bücknitz Summer Concerts" have been held in the church every year since 1998. The Kulturförderverein Bücknitz e. V.

Building

The village church of Bücknitz is divided into a steeple, nave and choir with a semicircular apse . It is classically oriented from west to east. The nave and choir are made of unplastered, hewn field stones. In the area of the apse, individual gaps were later filled with red clinker bricks and partially plastered over them . There are three arched windows on the north and south sides of the ship. These are later structurally changed. The arches are made of bricks . An eaves cornice is supported by consoles ( console frieze ).

The choir and apse are smaller and narrower than the nave. Like the ship's windows, they are provided with simple lead glazing. There is a small priest portal in the north wall of the choir . Under the eaves of the nave, the choir and the apse there are profiled stone eaves. The ship's cornice is supported by small consoles. The roofs are covered with red beaver tails .

In contrast to the rest of the church, the baroque church tower is plastered white. It has a square floor plan . It is graduated about halfway up. Field stones and bricks are used in the lower part. The upper part of the tower has a narrower floor plan. Structuring elements are vertical pilaster strips and horizontal cornices and console friezes. Windows and sound openings of the bell cage are designed in a round arch. There is also an ox-eye in the western tower wall. The simple portal is designed in an arched segment . A tail cap has a double curvature. It is covered with copper slate. On the top of the hood there is a roof turret in the form of a tower helmet with an attachment with a tower ball and weather vane .

Interior

A wooden altarpiece comes from the baroque era. This was changed in the 19th century. The original altarpiece showed a crucifixion group . This was replaced with a copy of a picture by Giulio Romano , a representation of the incredulous Thomas . A baptismal font is made of sandstone . Its bowl is designed with a Romanesque capital . However, the basin probably dates from the 19th century. It stands in the northeastern area of the nave.

In the southeast is the wooden pulpit . A round triumphal arch is decorated with painting. Under the west gallery is a closed and heated room that is used as a winter church. The six-register organ , built in 1960/1961, has been on the gallery since 2012. It comes as a gift from the profaned Holy Cross Church in Schulenburg .
