Köpernitz village church

The Protestant village church Köpernitz is a neo-Romanesque hall church in Köpernitz , a district of the town of Ziesar in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in the state of Brandenburg . The church belongs to the parish of same-Fläming the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

location

The Köpernitzer Dorfstraße leads from the federal highway 107 in an easterly direction into the village. There the structure stands south of the street on a slightly raised area that is not fenced in .

history

Köpernitz was first mentioned in a document in 1420. It is therefore conceivable that there was a previous building at an earlier time, of which, however, no documents are yet available. The sacred building was built in 1883. In 2009, craftsmen built a window in the choir with a holy spirit motif of the dove based on a design by Martina Wegener.

Building description

West portal

The structure was essentially built of granite on a base made of field stones , which was cut into blocks and carefully layered. The builders used a reddish brick for the reveals and garments . So they built the apse , which has a rectangular floor plan and is strongly indented. On its east side are three domed, narrow and tall rectangular windows. The north and south sides are windowless. At the transition to the eaves is a surrounding frieze made of reddish brick. Above it is half a pyramid roof , which is covered with black slate. The choir is slightly indented and semicircular. On the east side is an ox-eye in the middle ; A large arched window each to the northeast and southeast. The choir has half a conical roof .

The nave has a rectangular floor plan. On the north and south walls there are three coupled and large arched windows. The gable is decorated with a pinnacle each , plus a surrounding frieze at the level of the eaves of the choir. The ship is equipped with a gable roof .

The west tower is square and strongly drawn in. It can be entered from the west through a triple-stepped arched portal. Portal and the ground floor are equipped with a revolving fighters decorated in brickwork. Above each are three coupled, upright rectangular windows that take up the shape of the apse. The building material changes at the height of the eaves of the nave. Above a cornice , the craftsmen only used bricks. There is a rectangular window on each of the three sides at the height of the ship's gable. Above it is a tower clock on the three accessible sides. In the bell storey, the craftsmen built three coupled, segment-arched sound arcades above a frieze on each side . The corners of the tower are emphasized with pilaster strips . This is followed by an eight-fold kinked tower helmet , which ends with a tower ball and cross.

Furnishing

In the tower there is a bell that was made in 1929 by the bell foundry in Apolda . A memorial stone in front of the north nave commemorates those who died in the First World War .
