Manfred Pfennig (born February 5, 1941 ) was a soccer goalkeeper in the GDR . For SC Empor / FC Hansa Rostock he played from 1962 to 1967 in the Oberliga , the top division of the GDR football association .

Pfennig owed his first appearances for SC Empor Rostock in the GDR upper league to the injury of the goalkeeper Jürgen Heinsch . Pfennig played his first league game on April 29, 1962 in the encounter of the 34th match day rotation Leipzig - Empor Rostock (0-0). By the end of the 1961/62 season, which was played over 39 game days due to the change from the calendar year to the summer-spring rhythm, Pfennig was used in four other point games. Since Manfred Schröbler was the undisputed number 1 in the Rostock goal in the 1962/63 season , Pfennig only played in the fourth-class second team, with which he, however, rose to the district league. In 1963/64 Heinsch was back in the goal of the league team, represented by Schröbler, and Pfennig was again only the 2nd team. Only in one Intercup game in the summer of 1964 he was used in the 1st team. Also in the 1964/65 season, Pfennig was only number 3 among the uphill goal people. In addition to three appearances in the Intercup competition , he only completed one league game. During the 1965/66 season, the soccer section of SC Empor was spun off and FC Hansa Rostock was founded with it. In this season Pfennig was initially used again in four Intercup games and was still in goal in four league games towards the end of the season. Pfennig completed his last season for FC Hansa in 1966/67, in which he was used five times in the major league and twice in the Intercup. In addition, he helped the 2nd team to rise to the second-rate GDR league . Within six years, Pfennig had made 15 league appearances. In addition, he played for the first team in seven GDR Cup games and nine Intercup matches.

In the summer of 1967 Pfennig moved to the GDR league club TSG Wismar , but was initially only reserve goalkeeper there. Only at the end of the 1969/70 season he was used in nine point games of the 1st team. For the 1970/71 season he was promoted to goalkeeper and played 23 of the 30 point games.

At the beginning of the 1971/72 season Pfennig returned to Rostock and joined the third-rate district division TSG Bau Rostock . With him he became district champion in 1973 and rose to the GDR league. There he remained a regular goalkeeper for four seasons and played 72 of 88 point games played. After the end of the 1976/77 season, Pfennig ended his career as a football player at the age of 36.
