Manfred Preiss
Manfred Preiß (born October 22, 1939 in Wernigerode ) is a German politician ( LDPD , BFD , FDP ). In 1990 he was Minister for Regional and Local Affairs of the GDR in the cabinet of Lothar de Maizière .
Life
Preiß, the son of an employee, trained as a locomotive fitter from 1954 to 1957 and worked in the profession until 1961. Until 1964 he studied at the engineering school for mechanical engineering and electrical engineering in Magdeburg , from 1978 to 1984 distance learning law at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1964 he joined the LDPD. From 1970 to 1979 he was a member of the council of the city of Blankenburg (Harz) , from 1981 to 1990 member of the secretariat of the Magdeburg district council of the LDPD and member of the district parliament, and from 1986 to 1990 deputy chairman of the district council and head of the housing policy and economy department.
From January to March 1990 he was State Secretary in the Ministry for Local State Bodies, then Minister for Regional and Local Affairs until October.
Preiß is married and has two children.
