from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manfred Strossenreuther (born February 16, 1948 in Hankensbüttel ; † March 29, 1986 in a plane crash in Speichersdorf ) was a German sports pilot and multiple world and European champion in aerobatics .

Life

Richard Strossenreuther, Manfred Strösenreuther's father, ran a flight school founded in 1963 in Speichersdorf . After training as a carpenter, Manfred Strossenreuther devoted himself to aviation. As early as 1972, he took part in the aerobatic world championship in Salon-de-Provence as a member of the German national team. In 1973 he won the Zadar Cup held in Yugoslavia and had further sensational successes from the late 70s to the mid 80s: multiple German champions, European and even world champions in aerobatics (1976 in the "known duty" in Kiev, 1978 in Budweis in the "Unknown Duty"). He achieved his sporting success first on a Pitts S-1 biplane and later on his Zlín Z-50 . In 1984 the singer Reinhard Mey acquired the license to perform aerobatics on powered aircraft from Manfred Strossenreuther.

For his sporting achievements he received the Silver Laurel Leaf from Federal President Walter Scheel .

accident

On Holy Saturday , March 29, 1986, while briefing another pilot on the Fuji FA 200 , Manfred Strossenreuther collided with a Cessna 150 that was practicing traffic laps in Speicherersdorf . The two small planes collided at a height of about 30 meters not far from the runway. All four aircraft occupants, both in the FA 200 and in the Cessna, were killed in the accident. Strossenreuther was the only one who survived the plane hitting the ground, but died a short time later from internal bleeding caused by his headset .

Today his flight school and a street named after him in Speichersdorf still reminds of the sport aviator. He left behind a wife and two daughters, the younger of whom was just under 4 months old when he crashed.
