Manfred Weidenbruch (born December 2, 1937 in Bremen ; † July 5, 2016 in Oldenburg ) was a German chemist and professor of inorganic chemistry at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg .

Life

He studied chemistry at RWTH Aachen University from 1957 to 1963 and completed his studies first with a diploma thesis (1963) and then a doctoral thesis (1964) on organofluorine compounds in Martin Schmeißer's group . Weidenburch completed his habilitation at RWTH Aachen University in 1971, and in 1973 he was appointed associate professor. In 1978 he accepted a professorship (C4) at the University of Oldenburg, making him the first “inorganic scientist” at the young university.

Research areas

One of Manfred Weidenbruch's research focuses was the synthesis of highly reactive silicon compounds. He made particular merits with the discovery and elucidation of special types of bonding of certain chemical elements.

Act

Weidenbruch led around 50 doctoral students to doctorate . He worked as a reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG) and was co-editor of the journal Organometallics of the American Chemical Society .

Honors

In 2001, Weidenbruch was honored with the WACKER Silicone Prize for his scientific work.
