Manfredo Manfredi (born January 6, 1934 in Palermo ) is an Italian production designer, animator and painter.

Life

Manfredi grew up in Palermo and Naples and has lived in Rome since 1946. He studied architecture for two years and then, until 1958, scenography at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. In 1960 he worked as Piero Filippone's assistant on the set design for the film The Lady of Atlantis . Numerous television films and documentaries followed, for which Manfredi was active as a production designer.

Manfredi came to animation film in 1963, where he initially worked with Guido Gomas . In their works they dedicated themselves to socio-political topics and created short animated films about the Mafia ( Ballata per un pezzo da novanta , 1966) and the gang system in Sardinia ( Su sambene non est aba , 1968). From 1968 Manfredi and Gomas went their own artistic ways. Manfredi's most successful short animated film was Dedalo in 1975 , which received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film . He then worked, among other things, as a production designer for television, but also in advertising. He is also active as a painter. His abstract works have been shown in exhibitions in Rome, Spoleto and Modena, for example.
