The Mangalia shipyard is a shipyard in Romania , which is located about 45 km south of Constanța .
history
In 1997, the Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries (DMH) shipyard was founded in Mangalia as a joint venture between the South Korean group of companies Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and the 2 Mai Shipyard.
The shipyard was taken over by the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group in July 2018 and is operated as a joint venture with the Romanian government. The Romanian state took over 51%, the Damen Shipyards Group 49% of the shares. Damen took over operational control of the shipyard renamed Damen Shipyards Mangalia.
Description of the shipyard
The shipyard company is active in both the new construction and repair sectors. The shipyard covers an area of 980,000 m². In the past mainly cargo ships and hulls were built for other shipyards. The two orange juice concentrate tankers Carlos Fischer and Premium do Brasil, which were delivered to the Norwegian shipping company Kleven Floro in 2002 and 2003, are a specialty . An important customer of the shipyard was the shipping company Hamburg Süd , which today belongs to the Maersk Group , for which six container ships with around 6,000 TEU each and seven ships with 7,100 TEU each were built.
The shipyard is the largest of the Damen shipyard group. Three large dry docks with a width of 48 and 60 meters enable Damen to build very large ships and sections.
