The toll road Mangartstraße ( Slovenian : Mangartska Cesta ) in the Julian Alps leads from the Predil Pass up to the Lahnscharte ( Slovenian : Mangartsko sedlo), but does not quite reach the saddle. The road leads to an altitude of 2055  m. i. J. , making it the highest road in Slovenia . The road was expanded as a military road between the two world wars.

The course of the 12 km long paved road leads over 17 hairpin bends and through 5 tunnels. The end of Mangartstraße is designed as a loop with a few parking spaces, from there you have a beautiful view of the Mangart summit to the east ( 2677  m. I. J. ). Before this loop, a short cul-de-sac branches off to the Mangart Hut ( Slovenian : Koča na Mangartskem sedlu) at 1906  m. i. J. from.

In October 2000, a large landslide destroyed a bridge and parts of the road above the first few kilometers of the road. The damage has now been repaired.
