Manic Depression is a Russian thrash metal band from Moscow that was formed in 1999.

history

After Max "Max with Bolt" Layko had been active as guitarist and singer with Korrosija Metalla since 1997 , in 1999 he took over the position of singer and bassist in a band project that was as yet unnamed. In the spring of 2000 the group, now called Manic Depression, recorded the demo Who Deals the Pain . Then Ilya Zudilov joined the band as bassist, after which Layko took over the electric guitar and vocals. The demo would be released in April 2001 through Hobgoblin Records . In February 2002, the band won a competition from Play magazine , which made the group on the CD insert with the song Words of Hate to be heard. In spring 2003 the band re-recorded their demo: The drums were recorded in the Chernyi Obelisk Studio , while the rest of the recordings took place in the PowerSkya Studios . After the album had been mastered in the VMH studio in the summer , the group reached a contract with the Metalagen label, through which the newly recorded demo was released as a debut album in October. Meanwhile, the group separated from their drummer Vasilij Kazurov, who was replaced by Alexandr Vetkhov after a four-month search. Then work on the next album began. In February 2006 the album was released on Mystic Emprie Records under the name Planned Spiritual Decay . On the day of release, the band played together with Destruction in Moscow. The official concert for the release took place on March 12th at the Russian Relax Club, in which the bands Moray Eel, Devilish Distance, Everlost and Inexist also took part. The band then began recording the EP You'll Be with Us Again . The sound carrier contained, among other things, a cover version of the twisted sister song Come Out and Play and a newly recorded version of the song As We Rising Inferno in Russian , which was already included on the debut album. In addition, BI-2's Schura could be heard as a guest singer on the sound carrier . The EP was released in 2007. In the summer of 2008 the band won the Get Started Russian festival competition. In the summer of the following year, the band recorded the album Impending Collapse , which was released in 2010.

style

According to Thomas Meyns from metalnews.de , the band on Impending Collapse plays modern Thrash Metal with a strong influence from the San Francisco Bay Area . The influence may be heard especially in the staccato - riffing out that at will in the days of The Gathering would remember. Max Layko's singing is less reminiscent of Chuck Billy , but more of Kreators Mille Petrozza . In addition, Layko also uses clear vocals, which he does not really master.
