BI-2 ( Russian БИ-2 ) is a Russian and Belarusian rock band , which was founded by Shura BI-2 and Lyowa BI-2 . The band was founded in 1985 in Belarus and emigrated to Russia in 1999, which made them famous. BI-2 was one of the most successful bands in Russia in the 2000s. Some albums reached gold status.

history

prehistory

The band BI-2 was born in Bobruisk in the Belarusian Soviet Republic , in 1985 Shura (Aleksandr Uman) and Lyowa (Igor Bortnik) met while studying theater. This created a collective called "Brothers in Arms" ( Russian Братья по оружию ) which was renamed after a few months to "Shores of Truth" ( Russian Берег Истины ). The changing part of the band consisted of 15 members (there was also a show band ). At the first big concert on November 10th, 1988 the band called themselves "BI-2" Bereg Istiny - 2 ( Russian Берег Истины - 2 ) which translates as "Shores of Truth - 2". Until 1990 the band was an active guest in Belarus for two years.

In 1991 one of the band leaders "Shura" moved to Israel and "Lyowa" followed him the following year. BI-2 participates in the Jerusalem Rock Festival in 1992 and takes first place.

In 1993 "Shura" moves to Australia and joins the dark wave band Chiron, which doesn't harm the cohesion of BI-2, since Shura and Lyowa make their songs by phone and via audio letters. The lyrics and songs, which were recorded over the phone, found their place in 1997 on an album called " Sexless and Sad Love" ( Russian Бесполая и грустная любовь ), which was only released in 1998 due to an economic crisis.

Lyova joined Shura in Australia in 1998 and also played with Chiron for a year.

development

In September 1999 the band traveled to Russia for the rock festival "Maxidrom" ( Russian Максидром ) and in 2000 took part in the soundtrack of the film "Der Bruder 2" (original title: Russian Брат 2 ). The track "Nobody writes to the colonel" (Polkowniku nikto ne pischet, Russian Полковнику никто не пишет ) , which appeared in the film, increases the band's popularity enormously.

The band often performs on stage in duets with other Russian musicians such as Splin . The attraction of the domestic projects led to the fact that in the last quarter of 2005 an album was created, which was called "The Odd Warrior" ( Russian: Нечётный воин ) and the songs of Shura's uncle Michail Karasjow by important rock singers such as Piknik , Agatha Christie , Notschnyje Snaipery , Brainstorm etc. were presented. The second album of the same name for this project was released in 2008.

The texts of BI-2 are rich in literary references to cinema worlds. Western styles can be recognized in the music, which seem quite unusual to the Russian listener.

Shura and Lyowa host a radio program called "Biology" once a week on the Russian radio station "Maximum".

Shura is an Australian citizen and even managed to rename his name to B-II .
