Myllykoski Oyj was a Finnish family business and paper manufacturer based in Helsinki until 2011 . In 2010, it was the third largest manufacturer of SC papers worldwide and was one of the six leading manufacturers of coated wood-containing papers .

history

The company was founded in Finland in 1892.

On February 1, 1996, MD Papier GmbH , founded in 1862 and based in Dachau, was taken over by Myllykoski and Metsä-Serla . This brought the two plants in Dachau and Plattling to the company. In 2007 production was discontinued at the Dachau location.

On December 21, 2010, the company announced that it had signed an agreement to sell Myllykoski and Rhein Papier to UPM . The European Commission approved the takeover on July 13, 2011 unconditionally.

On August 31, 2011 UPM announced the closure of the Albbruck and Kouvola mills and the shutdown of paper machine 3 in Ettringen.

Production sites when it was acquired by UPM in 2010

At the time of the takeover by UPM, the company was producing uncoated and coated publication papers, including newsprint, in a total of seven paper mills with a total production capacity of three million tons of paper per year.

Until June 2009, the Utzenstorf paper mill also belonged to the Myllykoski Corporation.

The Albbruck paper mill with 3 paper machines with an annual capacity of 320,000 tons for coated LWC / MWC printing papers on reels and coated, wood-containing format offset papers was sold to UPM in 2011, which in turn closed it down in 2012 and sold it to the Karl Group.
