Mansel Island ( Inuktitut : Pujjunaq ) is an uninhabited island at the entrance to Hudson Bay in the north. Administratively, it belongs to the Qikiqtaaluk region of the Nunavut territory, Canada .
In the list of Canada's largest islands, Mansel Island is in 28th place, and among the largest islands in the world, according to various sources, in 155th or 159th place.
The 3180 km² island is located 55 km west of the Ungava peninsula near the northwestern Cape Pointe De Sainte-Hélène and is home to a nature reserve for caribou . It was discovered for Europe in 1613 by Thomas Button , who named it after Sir Robert Mansell (around 1570-1652), Vice Admiral of the English Royal Navy .
The highest point on the island reaches a height of 130 m.
