The Mantaweiher near Burgthann are three ponds that belong together in the municipality of Burgthann in the Middle Franconian district of Nürnberger Land in Bavaria .
location
The small chain of ponds is located about 400 meters north of the Burgthanner district of Heinleinshof . It is part of the Schwarzachtal landscape protection area with side valleys (LSG-00587.01, WDPA 396136). The ponds are freely accessible all year round. A local destination hiking trail (Oberferrieden - Schleuse 33, No. 7) leads directly past the ponds.
description
The artificial still waters, unnamed on current topographic maps, are named locally after the tenant, the fishing association Manta eV Fürth. The total water area is about 1.4 hectares. There is a small island in the western pond. The ponds were created in the 1980s in a former wetland. They have no inlet and drain west into the Fledenbach , which flows into the Mühlbach south of Burgthann . The ponds are stocked with perch , pike , carp , roach , rudd and tench and are used by the tenant as a fishing area.
Historical land maps show that there were already three ponds in this area before 1850 that belonged to the hamlet of Heinleinshof. The size of the middle pond of today's chain of ponds corresponds roughly to a pond that was abandoned in the middle of the 19th century. The two ponds formerly following it have risen into a still body of water which, however, is smaller in terms of water surface than the two previous ponds were. The final pond of the western pond, which no longer exists today, still borders the path to Heinleinshof.
