Manu Koch

Manu Koch (born June 12, 1972 in Baar ZG , maiden name: Manuel Silvan Koch) is a Swiss pianist , keyboardist and composer .

Live and act

Koch began his first attempts at the piano at the age of 5 and received classical piano lessons for 13 years. At the age of 18 he also devoted himself to the tenor saxophone while taking courses at the Lucerne Jazz School. In 1993 he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston on a scholarship, where he graduated four years later. In May 2000 he moved to New York, where he still lives today. In addition to several tours with various projects since the end of the 90s, he spent a long time in India, Brazil and China (Hong Kong). His most important works as a sideman include collaborations with Angélique Kidjo (2004–2006 Oyaya! US touring band), Benny Rietveld (various projects since 2005), Teodora Enache , Prasanna , KJ Denhert , Malika Zarra , Fantcha , New York Gypsy All- Stars (2011-2016 tours in the USA, Brazil, Europe and Asia), and has been involved in 15 album productions by blues / soul artist Tomás Doncker for True Groove Records since 2012 .

Filtron M

Koch's own Filtron M project is a platform for a multinational network of musicians and a compositional representation of his extensive influences. The core idea of ​​Filtron M goes back to the founding of his first group with Anat Cohen , Guilherme Monteiro, Gustavo Amarante and Harvey Wirht in Boston in the late 1990s. Koch's official debut album Triple Life (2011) was followed by the EP Mandatory Underground (2014), which featured the first members of Filtron M with Panagiotis Andreou and Patrick Andy on bass, Mauricio Zottarelli and Harvey Wirht on drums, as well as Sebastian Nickoll and Brahim Fribgane Percussion are presented. The album Astoria Roots Live (2017) includes additional guests with appearances at Iridium in New York and at Moods in Zurich. Other musicians who have worked with Filtron M on performances, videos or recordings are Samuel Torres, Camila Meza , Gino Sitson and Kaïssa.
