Teodora Enache

Teodora Enache (* the 30th September 1967 in Onesti , Bacau , Romania ) is a Romanian jazz - singer .

Career

After Teodora Enache completed school in her hometown, she studied mathematics at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași and graduated with honors in 1991. Teodora discovered her passion for music during her studies and took singing lessons from Dan Priscornic. She had her first public appearance in 1993 at the jazz festival in Sibiu , followed by various concerts and events.

Teodora Enache often worked with Johnny Răducanu and sang with Stanley Jordan , Benny Rietveld (bassist for Santana ), Theodosii Spassov , Burton Greene , Lars Danielsson , Darius Brubeck , Cătălin Târcolea, Guido Manusardi , Ion Baciu Jr., Lucian Marian, Marius Mihalache and many more.

Musical career

Teodora made her first big appearance in 1993 at the international jazz festival in Sibiu , where she was awarded the Best New Artist Award.

In the first ten years of her career she gave numerous concerts, participated in many international festivals and worked with well-known jazz musicians. Teodora has performed at numerous festivals, often together with internationally known musicians such as: at the Leipzig Book Fair (Germany), at the Palais Jalta in Frankfurt (Germany), at the Milan Jazz Festival (Italy) with Guido Manusardi, Luigi Bonafe & Lucio Canetti , at the Roof Garden & Villa Celimontana Jazz Festival in Rome (Italy) with Johnny Răducanu, at the Jazz in the Marciac Festival (France) with Éric Legnini , Fabien Marcos, Jacques-Pierre Arnaud and Olivier Temime, in a Zurich theater, at the Valtellina Jazz Festival ( Italy) with Johnny Răducanu, at the Szolnok Jazz Festival (Hungary) with Jean Stoian, in the Biscuits & Blues Jazz Club in San Francisco (USA), in the Astor Club in Las Vegas (USA), in the Goddard Chapel of Tufts University in Boston ( USA), in the Romanian Cultural Institute & Pulse Club in New York (USA), in the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington (USA) with Johnny Răducanu, in the Blues Alley in Washington (USA) - as guest of Curtis Fuller , in the Caveau de la Huchette in Paris (France) with Philippe Duchemin Quartet, at the Menden Jazz Festival (Germany) as a special guest of Al Copley, at the Panama International Festival for the grand opening of the Panama Canal, at the Iridium Club in New York (USA) with Les Paul , at the Nouveau Jazz Club in San Francisco (USA), with Ricardo Scale, at the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland) with Stanley Jordan , at the Cormons Jazz & Wine Festival (Italy), at Porgy & Bess in Vienna (Austria), at The Ventury Club in New York (USA) - a benefit concert for Alex Funds.

From 2004 and 2010 Teodora Enache toured across Europe to promote her album entitled Roots in cities like Vienna , Stockholm , Berlin and Budapest . The tour was organized by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Followed by another tour in the US planned by the same team.

During the same period in 2005 Teodora performed with Stanley Jordan at the Gãrâna Jazz Festival. In the same year she started to work with Theodosii Spassov (at the Jazz & Blues Festival in Ruse).

In 2007 Teodora received the Romanian Broadcasting Corporation's Excellence Award for the best international contribution by a Romanian jazz artist.

Most of the concerts and appearances she gave during this time took place abroad: at the Django Reinhard Memorial Festival in Berlin, in the United Nations Palace in Geneva, at the Library of Congress Gala in Washington, in the International House of Columbia University in New York, in the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, in the Arts Museum in San Francisco, at Cal Tech University, Los Angeles, in the Corcoran Museum in Washington, at the Montreal Eurofest (Canada) with Theodosii Spassov, in the Romanian Embassy in Washington, at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Budapest with Johnny Răducanu, at the Vienna Jazz Festival, Jazzdor Strasbourg, Kiew Jazz Festival, Stockholm Jazz Festival, the Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, in Menden with Decebal Bãdilã , in Jazzmozdony @ Kultea Club Budapesta and Grand Café & Cinema Club Szeged with István Gyárfás & Balázs Berkes.

Among the few appearances in Romania, the following are particularly noteworthy: the appearance at the International Jazz Festival in Brașov with Johnny Răducanu, during the Romanian Presidency together with Johnny Răducanu, at the Transylvania Jazz Festival - Cluj Napoca as a special guest of Billy Cobham , at the Raiffeisen Bank Art Project / Philharmonic Tour: Iaşi, Cluj Napoca, Constanța and Bucharest.

At this time Teodora released an album entitled Jazz Poems at the National Theater in Bucharest with Ion Baciu & Johnny Răducanu and gave a series of concerts at the Music Academy in Cluj Napoca and in the Music Village / Brussels with Burton Greene & Liviu Butoi, the Hungarian Opera in Cluj Napoca with the Darius Brubeck Quartet and in the ArCuB Concert Hall in Bucharest with the Theodosii Spassov Orchestra feat. Burton Greene.

Between 2011 and 2016 Teodora started a long-term collaboration with world-famous musicians such as:

  • Stanley Jordan: with “Hymns For Voice & Fingers” Teodora and Stanley performed in Germany ( Ingolstädter Jazztage ), in Switzerland ( Lugano Jazz Festival ) and in Romania (Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, Philharmonie in Cluj-Napoca and Thalia Music Hall in Sibiu) on stage.
  • Benny Rietveld ( Miles Davis former bassist and Carlos Santana's current bassist and musical director) together with his quintet: Together there were concerts Celebrations of the Spirit in Bucharest and Brasov in 2014 as well as a project called Transfiguration , with concerts at Club Tribute in Bucharest , in the Thalia Music Hall in Sibiu and in Cluj-Napoca (June 2016).
  • Lars Danielsson : Teodora developed a show with Lars called “Impressions From Pangea” (with concerts in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca as part of the Jazz In The Park event).
  • Daniele di Bonaventura, with whom Teodora took part in the Sofia Jazz Festival.
  • Theodosii Spassov, with whom she is implementing a project, inspired by Bela Bartók's music and performing together in Cluj Napoca, Balcic and at the Apollonia Festival in Bulgaria.

During this time Teodora also released the album "A Child is Born" with István Gyárfás & Balázs Berkes .

Their collaboration with Benny Rietveld and his quintet resulted in the album "Transfiguration", which was recorded in Las Vegas as well as in the famous Abbey Road Studios in London. Shortly thereafter, another album followed with the title "Incantations - Homage to Bela Bartók", together with Theodosii Spassov.

Teodora Enache has been artistic director of the Bucharest Jazz Festival since 2016. Teodora moved to Germany in 2017 for family reasons and has since lived near Frankfurt am Main.
