Decebal Badila

Decebal Badila (* 19th February 1968 in Constanta as Decebal Bădilă ) is a Romanian jazz bass player .

Badila, whose older brother was the double bass player Ovidiu Bădilă , initially received violin lessons, but switched to the double bass as early as 1975. At the age of only eleven he won first prize at the national festival as a solo double bass player. He has also been playing the electric bass since 1984. In 1986 he was voted the best bass player in Romania by leading specialist magazines. From 1987 to 1990 he studied mathematics and physics at the University of Bucharest . During his studies he played numerous concerts and studio productions with Romanian jazz musicians and pop stars such as Dan Mândrilă , Johnny Răducanu , Zoltán Boros, Anca Parghel , Mircea Tiberian and Marius Popp.

In 1990 he moved to Germany, where he studied double bass at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . At his final concert for his diploma in 1996, which he graduated with top marks and honors, he played with Eugen Cicero , whose trio he had been a member of since 1993. He continued his career in numerous concerts, studio productions and jazz festivals in Europe and Asia, for example with Clark Terry , Larry Coryell , Chaka Khan , Biréli Lagrène , Marc Russo, Brandon Fields, Graham Haynes , Shirley Bassey , Koono , Kitty Winter , Horst Jankowski , Markus Stockhausen , Tony Lakatos , Wolfgang Haffner or Peter Less . He can also be heard on albums by Pe Werner , Joo Kraus , Manfred Krug / Fanny Krug and Dieter Reith

Badila developed a solo program for electric bass, which he presented at jazz festivals, in concerts and in his own television shows. In 1995 his debut solo album Nothing But Bass was released , which received positive reviews. Since 1997 he has been a bassist in the SWR Big Band , with whom he has recorded numerous programs and with international jazz soloists such as Bob Mintzer , Rob McConnell , Sammy Nestico , Toshiko Akiyoshi , Ivan Lins , George Benson , Jacob Collier , Djamel Laroussi and Don Menza concerted. 2001 was the second solo album Archibald's Dance .
