Mircea Tiberian (born May 4, 1955 in Cluj-Napoca , Cluj County ) is a Romanian jazz pianist .

Live and act

Tiberian grew up in Sibiu and came to Bucharest in 1975 , where he studied at the Conservatory until 1980 . He made his debut in 1974 at the Sibiu International Jazz Festival. From 1979 to 1981 he was a member of the Teatrul Muzical Ion Vasilescu in Bucharest. From 1984 he led a quartet with Liviu Butoi , and was also the coleader of the Trio Labirint and the Romanian All Stars . With Dan Mândrilă and Nicolas Simion he played in the group Opus 4 .

Between 1990 and 1993 he was a member of the Romanian Big Band . In 1998 he founded the East-West European jazz orchestra Interzone with Maurice de Martin . Since the mid-1990s, he has participated in several multimedia projects: Incursiuni (1996), Liniada (1999) and Agnus Dei (2000). He worked with European and American musicians such as Larry Coryell , Tomasz Stańko , Herb Robertson , Ed Schuller , Nicolas Simion , Adam Pierończyk , Theo Jörgensmann , Johnny Răducanu , Aura Urziceanu and Anca Parghel .

Tiberian teaches jazz at the Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca Music Academies and is Artistic Director of the Bucharest International Jazz Festival .
