Ovidiu Bădilă

Ovidiu Bădilă (born October 18, 1962 in Constanța , Constanța district ; † March 21, 2001 in Blankenburg (Harz) , during his participation in the International Double Bass Week in the Michaelstein Monastery ; according to other information in Trieste , Italy ) was a Romanian double bass player and is valid as one of the great double bass virtuosos of the 20th century.

Life

Bădilă, whose younger brother Decebal Badila also emerged as bassist, studied in Bucharest with Ion Cheptea . In 1987 he emigrated to Western Europe, where he studied with Sergiu Celibidache , Enzo Ferraris, Wolfgang Güttler , Franco Petracchi and Jean Marc Rollez .

Bădilă won various international competitions, for example in Markneukirchen (1985), Reims (1988) and Donostia-San Sebastián (1989).

In 1992 he became a professor at the Trossingen University of Music , and from 1997 he also taught at the Basel City Music Academy . On May 23, 2003, two years after his death, Bădilă was appointed “ Professor hc - post mortem ” of the National Music University of Bucharest .

On recordings of him u. a. presented a highly regarded complete recording of the works of Giovanni Bottesini .
