Wolfgang Güttler
Wolfgang Güttler (* 1945 in Brașov ( German Kronstadt ) / Romania) is a German double bass player of Romanian German origin.
Live and act
Güttler studied double bass at the Bucharest University of Music with Joseph Prunner. From 1967 he was a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra in Cluj , and between 1969 and 1974 a member of the Bucharest Radio Orchestra . In 1969 he also played in Richard Oschanitzky's jazz formation . In 1973 he was awarded the Concours de Genève and played with the Berliner Philharmoniker from 1975 to 1985 . From 1985 to 1991 he taught as a professor at the Cologne University of Music and Dance , then at the Karlsruhe University of Music . Since 1987 he has also been the solo bassist of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg . As an instrumental teacher, he has given master classes worldwide, including at the Juilliard School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music .
Together with violist Eckart Schloifer and cellist Othello Liesmann, he founded the Trio Basso in Cologne in 1982 , for whose unusual line-up composers such as Mauricio Kagel , Nicolaus A. Huber , Younghi Pagh-Paan , Andreas Raseghi and Wolfgang Rihm wrote. The border area between new music and free jazz as well as works of instrumental music theater also belong to the spectrum of the Trio Basso . The ensemble has also worked with the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and performed at the Donaueschinger Musiktage . Since 1992 Güttler has worked in the ensemble of the Pablo Casals Festival Prades , since 1997 he has been part of the group that . He plays with eleven other bassists in the ensemble The Geatles . As a freelance improviser, he played in 2007 at the Total Music Meeting with Thomas Lehn and bassists Werner Dafeldecker and Matthias Bauer .
His repertoire ranges from early music to jazz and contemporary music . Jean Françaix and Hans-Joachim Hespos dedicated compositions to him, among others . He has received several awards for his solo and chamber music recordings.
