Guido Manusardi

Guido Manusardi (* 3. December 1935 in Chiavenna ) is an Italian jazz - pianist and composer .

Manusardi's mother was a teacher at a conservatory and received musical support from his parents. He began his musical career at the age of fifteen and performed publicly with classical sonatas and jazz improvisations. Between 1960 and 1967 he worked mainly in Sweden. He then lived in Bucharest for seven years ; with Dan Mândrilă and Johnny Răducanu he played Blues For Vali , the first Romanian free jazz album. In 1977 he performed at the jazz festivals in Ljubljana and Warsaw , and in 1978 at the Montreux Jazz Festival . During a stay in Stockholm Manusardi met the bassist Red Mitchell , with whom he would work frequently in the following years. In 1985 he recorded the album Downtown for Soul Note in a trio with Isla Eckinger and Ed Thigpen ; In 1988 he played with Red Mitchell in a duo ( Together Again ) and in 1990 in a trio with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Gianni Cazzola ( So That ).

1996 Manusardi took on the album The Village Fair in an expanded line-up ; the authors Cook and Morton describe his inclusion of Romanian folk music in contemporary jazz as "Manusardi's triumph". Contributors were Paolo Fresu , Gianluigi Trovesi , Furio Di Castri and Roberto Gatto .

In 1997 Manusardi was artistic director of the Valtellina Jazz Festival ; In 1999 he led a workshop as part of the Musica Viva festival . In 2000, Manusardi played with Billy Higgins and Trevor Ware ( Live at the Hot Spot ) at the invitation of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles .

Manusardi has also worked with Roy Eldridge , Bobby Hackett , Art Farmer , Don Byas , Dexter Gordon , Tootie Heath , Slide Hampton , Johnny Griffin , Lee Konitz , Jimmy Cobb , Jerry Bergonzi , Victor Lewis , Cecil Payne , Shelly Manne , Booker Ervin , Joe Venuti , Curtis Fuller , Kai Winding , Jimmy Owens , Lou Donaldson , Joe Morello , Art Taylor , Hal Singer , Lennart Åberg , Zbigniew Namysłowski and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen .
