Manuel "Manu" Pineda Marín (born September 2, 1965 in Almería ) is a Spanish politician ( Izquierda Unida and PCE ), trade unionist and activist. Since the European elections in 2019 , Pineda has been a member of the European Parliament as part of the GUE / NGL group .

Life

Manu Pineda was born in Almería on September 2nd, 1965. Even in his youth, Pineda was politically active and was a member of the Communist Party of Malaga and a trade union member of the Comisiones Obreras .

In 2011 Pineda moved to Gaza and began to work as a brigadist for the Unadikum . He was also active in the International Solidarity Movement . He later worked as an activist in the West Bank, where he also worked with activist Ahed Tamimi , among others .

In autumn 2018, the Izquierda Unida announced that the parties Podemos , Catalunya en Comú and Barcelona en Comú would run in the European elections 2019 in the list connection " Unidas Podemos Cambiar Europa". Pineda ran in 6th place on the list. The list connection gained almost 10 percent and thus 6 of the 54 Spanish mandates, so that Pineda moved in directly. He joined the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left . For his group he is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and a deputy member of the two sub-committees Human Rights and Security and Defense .
