Manuel Álvaro da Cruz

Manuel Álvaro da Cruz († between 1975 and 1978 in the Centro Sul resistance sector of East Timor ; also known as Manecas Cruz , or Manecas Crus ), fighting name Sekar, was an East Timorese independence activist and freedom fighter.

He was one of the Marxist-Leninist students at the Casa dos Timores in Lisbon . At the turn of 1974/75 he returned to his homeland, Portuguese Timor , where he became a member of the Central Committee of FRETILIN (CCF). After the invasion by Indonesia in 1975 , Sekar fought in the Centro Sul resistance sector (roughly today's communities Ainaro , Manufahi and the east of Cova Lima ), where he died until the end of 1978.

In 2006, Sekar was posthumously awarded the Ordem de Dom Boaventura .
