Manuel Hobiger

Manuel Hobiger (* 1982 in Würzburg ) is a German seismologist , volcano expert and quiz player. He is known as one of the "hunters" from the ARD quiz show Asked - Hunted .

Career

education and profession

Hobiger passed the Abitur at the Riemenschneider-Gymnasium in Würzburg , studied physics at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and graduated with a diploma in 2007. He then did a doctorate at the University of Grenoble in France and received his doctorate in 2011 with the thesis Polarization of surface waves: characterization, inversion and application to seismic hazard assessment . From 2010 to 2013 he worked as a postdoctoral fellow for the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources in Hanover ; since 2013 he has been working as a research assistant and seismologist at the Swiss Seismological Service in Zurich .

Quiz player

In 2003 Hobiger appeared as a candidate in the RTL quiz show Wer wird Millionär? and won 500 euros. In August 2012, he won 500,000 euros on the show Der Super-Champion . In the April 4, 2017 edition of Asked - Hunted , he and two other finalists won 27,500 euros against the “hunter” Klaus Otto Nagorsnik , of which he brought 20,000 euros into the final, after which he earned 5,500 euros in the quick guessing round. Since May 24th, 2018 he has been a hunter himself in this program under the battle name “The Quiz Volcano”.

Hobiger has been participating in quiz competitions since 2006. In 2013 he was the German quiz champion in the individual, in 2014 and 2015 German champion in the buzz quiz, is a member of the national quiz team and founding vice-president of the German Quiz Association . In 2019 he was second in the German team championship and third in 2020, and he was fourth among the Germans in the 2019 World Quiz Championship.
