Manuel José Fernández Chacón

Manuel José Fernández Chacón (born March 26, 1786 in San José , Costa Rica ; † July 31, 1841 in Puntarenas , Costa Rica) was from March 18 to May 5, 1835 Jefe de Estado of Costa Rica.

Life

His parents were Petronila Chacón y Aguilar and Félix Fernández y Tenorio. His sister married Mariano Montealegre Fernández. On September 23, 1824, he married in Cartago Dolores Oreamuno y Muñoz de la Trinidad, the daughter of Juana Muñoz de la Trinidad y Gómez and Gregorio de Oreamuno y Alvarado. Eight children were born in this marriage: Juana Virgita de Jesús, Federico Fernández Oreamuno, Pacífica Fernández Oreamuno, Juan Manuel de la Trinidad, Juana Emerenciana, Juan Manuel Faustino, Juan Manuel and Próspero Fernández Oreamuno . One of his grandsons was José María Castro Madriz .

He owned a cattle ranch near Bagaces in Guanacaste

In 1823 he was mayor of Bagaces, he was a member of the constituent assembly from 1824 to 1825, 1825 to 1832 governor of San José (Costa Rica) in 1833 he was appointed deputy of the Jefe de Estado Rafael Luis José de Gallegos y Alvarado . From Rafael Luis José de Gallegos y Alvarado he sat before the Consejo Representativo , Parliament.

Jefe de Estado

Rafael Luis José de Gallegos y Alvarado resigned from office in March 1833. From June 1834 to March 4, 1835, Agustín Gutiérrez Lizaurzábal was deputy for Gallegos, managing director of Jefe de Estado . Parliament accepted his resignation on March 4, 1835 and revoked his election as president on March 6, 1844.

From March 18 to May 5, 1835, Manuel José Fernández Chacón was the managing director of Jefe de Estado . When parliament revoked the election of Gallegos on March 6, 1835, his deputy was also canceled. On May 5, 1835, Braulio Evaristo Carrillo became Colina Jefe de Estado .

Under his leadership, the Diezmo was replaced by an agricultural property tax to the church.

From 1835 to 1837 he was once again deputy of the Jefe de Estado Braulio Evaristo Carrillo Colina and chairman of the Consejo Representativo .

He was inspecting a customs house construction site in the port of Puntarenas when he suffered a fatal fall.

His son, José María Castro Madriz, and one of his sons, Próspero Fernández Oreamuno, became presidents of the republic.
