Manuel Just (born August 23, 1978 in Heidelberg ) is a German administrative specialist and local politician. He is Lord Mayor of the large district town of Weinheim .

Life

Just attended the Carl-Theodor-Schule in Schwetzingen and passed the technical college entrance qualification there in 1997 . After one year of community service, he studied at the administrative college in Kehl, with practical semesters at the district office of the Rhein-Neckar district in Heidelberg, and completed his studies with a degree in administrative management (FH). From 2002 to 2007 he worked for the Rauenberg city administration as city treasurer.

From July 2007 he was mayor of the Hirschberg community on Bergstrasse . He prevailed there in the first ballot with 56.3 percent of the vote against four competitors. In 2015 he was confirmed in office with 97.9 percent. In June 2018, he was elected Lord Mayor of Weinheim, also in the first ballot with a result of 68.4 votes from a total of seven applicants. He was only able to take up his office there in May 2019 due to an election challenge and until then remained mayor of Hirschberg.

Just is married and has two children. He is a former gymnast for the Ketsch gymnastics and sports community. From 1996 to 2001 he was youth warden and trainer there .

politics

On his sixtieth birthday, Weinheim's former mayor Heiner Bernhard announced that he would not run for a third term. After Bernhard's announcement, Manuel Just declared his candidacy. In the June 2018 election, he ran as a non-party candidate. He was supported by the CDU , the Free Voters and the Greens / GAL . The FDP made an election recommendation in his favor.

The 2018 Weinheim mayoral election attracted particular attention when the long-term candidate Fridi Miller challenged the election legally by alleging violations of the General Data Protection Regulation and disregard of the media's neutrality requirement. Until Just officially took office in May 2019, First Mayor Torsten Fetzner ran the business in Weinheim's town hall.

In the 2019 district election, Just ran for first place on the CDU Weinheim list.

Manuel Just was chairman of the Heidelberg-Mannheim neighborhood association from January 2018 to May 2019. From July 2007 to December 2019 he was chairman of the Oberer Landgraben wastewater association and chairman of the advisory board of the Badische Bergstraße adult education center and Badische Bergstraße music school. He is chairman of the regional youth agency "Job Central" and of the association "Blühende Bergstrasse", as well as spokesman for the Baden mayor in the cross-border tourism service "Die Bergstrasse". He is also a member of the administrative board of Sparkasse Rhein Neckar Nord, chairman of the Badische Bergstrasse water association, member of the district council and chairman of the Bergstrasse wastewater association.

Science and teaching

From the beginning of 2006 to the end of 2008 Just was lecturer for “New Municipal Budget Law” at the Administration and Business Academy in Karlsruhe and from September 2010 to the end of 2010 lecturer for municipal administrative law at the Rhein-Neckar Study Institute.
