Manuel María Gautier

Manuel María de la Concepción Gautier (* December 8, 1830 - May 24, 1897 ) was a Dominican politician and President of the Dominican Republic .

biography

Gautier was Minister of the Interior, Police and Agriculture from 1868 to 1873 as well as temporarily acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Buenaventura Báez government and in this function was jointly responsible for the conclusion of the agreement on the use of the Bay of Samaná . As early as 1876 he ran for the office of President, but was defeated by Ulises Francisco Espaillat (24,329 votes) and received the third-best result after Gregorio Luperón (559 votes) with 452 votes ahead of Juan Wanceslao Figueroa , who received 254 votes.

Between 1889 and 1893 he was Vice President during the presidency of Ulises Heureaux and as such from February 27 to April 30, 1889 incumbent President of the Dominican Republic .
