In architecture and arts and crafts, a medallion is a round or oval-shaped decorative field with paintings or reliefs that is used to decorate facades, interiors, monuments, tombs, furniture, carpets, glasses or equipment.

The materials used for building plastic medallions are different; for example, there are those made of stone , bronze , alabaster , terracotta and marble . In the Renaissance were for the design often busts and portrait reliefs or busts of ancient used models.
