Manuel Mujica Láinez

Manuel Mujica Láinez (born September 11, 1910 in Buenos Aires , † April 21, 1984 in Cruz Chica , Córdoba ) was an Argentine writer and journalist .

life and work

Mujica Láinez attended schools in England and France and studied law at the Universidad de Buenos Aires . From 1932 he was editor of the newspaper La Nación . From 1955 to 1958 he was the head of the cultural department of the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

His work includes the collection of poems Canto a Buenos Aires and the collection of short stories Misteriosa Buenos Aires . The cycle of novels Los ídolos , La Casa , Los viajeros and Invitados en el paraíso , created in the 1950s, is influenced by Marcel Proust .

His late work includes the trilogy Bomarzo , El Unicornio and El Laberinto . Bomarzo is set in the Italian Renaissance, El Unicornio in the French Middle Ages and El Laberinto in the Golden Age of Spain. With this trilogy, Mujica Láinez tried to encompass the national character of the countries in literary terms, which in turn shaped the national character of Argentina.
