biography

As a 15-year-old Schmid began to take part in FIS races in January 2009 , initially taking part in all disciplines. The first appearances in the European Cup followed in March 2010. Two more years passed before he started to get into the points in this racing series. During this time he gradually began to specialize in the fast disciplines. His best result at the Junior World Championships in 2012 in Roccaraso was fifth in the downhill. In February 2012, he finished in the top ten for the first time in a European Cup downhill.

Schmid suffered from a patellar tip syndrome in his left knee and was unable to contest a single race for two and a half years after the end of the 2012/13 season. Although there were no results, he continued to receive funding from the German Ski Association . He made his comeback in the fall of 2015 and gradually felt his way back. With two third places in winter 2016/17, he took third place in the downhill classification of the European Cup. After winning two FIS races at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, he made his debut in the World Cup on December 16, 2017 . As 16th on the downhill run from Val Gardena , he immediately won World Cup points with start number 43.
