Mapledurham Village

Mapledurham (Old English Mapuldorhām , "Maßholderheim" in relation to mapledur / mapuldor = ' Feldahorn , Maßholder') is a place and a civil parish in Oxfordshire , England . Mapledurham is on the north side of the Thames west of Reading . The Civil parish had 317 inhabitants in 2011.

Notable local buildings include Mapledurham House and Mapledurham Watermill , as well as St Margaret's Church, adjacent to the manor and used as the village church . The Hardwick House is also in Civil parish.

The Thames lock, called Mapledurham Lock, is opposite the town on the south side of the Thames at Purley-on-Thames . A weir connects both sides of the river, but there is no passage for vehicles or pedestrians.
