The Maqsudbeyk Mosque ( Persian مسجد مقصودبیک Masjed-e Maghsudbeyk [ mæsd͡ʒɛd ɛ mæɢsudbɛjc ]) is a historic mosque in Isfahan , Iran , which is one of the most magnificent of the Safavid era. It is located near the northeast corner of Naqsh-e-Jahan Square .
The mosque was built in 1602 on the orders of Maqsudbeek, a wealthy governor of Abbas I's court .
An inscription in the mosque's mihrab is considered a work of art by the Safavid-era calligrapher Alireza Abbassi . After Abbas I was satisfied with the inscription, he commissioned Alireza Abbassi with the inscriptions of the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque . Behind the entrance hall of the mosque in a small room is the grave of Mir Emad , the competitor Alireza Abbassis.
