María Azambuya

María Azambuya (born October 5, 1944 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † February 26, 2011 ) was a Uruguayan actress and theater director .

Life

Azambuya, who completed her training at the Escuela Municipal de Arte Dramático "Margarita Xirgu" (EMAD) in 1967 , later taught Rioplatensian and Latin American theater there from 1992 to 2010 .

Acting

From 1967 to 1972 she played as a guest actress at the Comedia Nacional . Her roles there included those in María Stuart and Galileo Galilei . From 1974, according to other sources as early as 1973, she belonged to the ensemble of the Teatro El Galpón , with whom she stayed in Mexican exile during the dictatorship that ruled Uruguay in the following years and then returned to Montevideo. While she was on stage in the pre-dictatorship phase in Witches Hunt , Der Geizige (1973) and Doña Ramona (1974), among others , she worked in Mexico, for example, in Artigas, General del Pueblo (1981) and Pluto . Back in Uruguay she could be seen in a multitude of other plays, including Ay, Carmela , Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle . In total she took part in more than 50 plays. She was also a member of the Montevideanas ensemble for all seasons . Most recently, Azambuya, who also took part in festivals in Cádiz, Caracas, New York, Mexico and Miami and toured internationally, was shown in Agosto for her performance . Condado Osage 2010 nominated for the Premio Florencio.

Director

In 1988 she was the director of the Buscabichos, which was awarded the Premio Florencio for both directing and the best children's play . The following year she brought Tabaré to the stage. In the following years she received awards for her directorial work, such as several Premio Florencios for the play El silencio fue casi una virtud .
