María Judith Franco

María Judith Franco Garcia (born July 2, 1925 in Guayama ; † December 10, 2017 ) was a Puerto Rican actress , radio play and voice actress .

Life

Franco grew up in Aguadilla and Mayagüez . She studied at the drama department of the University of Puerto Rico and performed at the university theater under the direction of Leopoldo Santiago Lavandero in the play El pevo real by the Spanish poet Eduardo Marquina . She then attended Erwin Piscator's Dramatic Workshop at the New School for Social Research in New York. She has also appeared in the US in English-language pieces such as Tonight We Improvise and Claudia .

On her return to San Juan, she founded the Teatro Infantil Universitario and acted as a speaker in radio soaps. She played with Miguel Ángel Álvarez in the piece "La rival de su hija", which WNEL broadcast in April 1953. When television arrived in Puerto Rico, she was given a role in El caso de la mujer asesinadita , directed by Fernando Cortés . In the following years she was next to her future husband Esteban de Pablos one of the stars in the series Un romance cada lunes .

At the Festivales de Teatro Puertorriqueño 1958 she performed a. a. with Rafael Enrique Saldaña in El apartamiento directed by René Marqués and Mariana o el alba under the direction of Pablo Cabrera and starred alongside Benjamín Morales in La zorra y las uvas . In the 1960s she was successful in telenovelas such as Ana Rosa (1965), La atea (1966) and Pasión culpable (1967), ten years later in Mujeres de América . Her partners included actors such as José Luis Marrero , Roberto Rivera Negrón , Félix Antelo and Raúl Carbonell . Her work as a voice actress in Mexican and American films earned her the title Reina del doblaje . In the mid-1970s, she retired from acting for health reasons.
