The Marília Atlético Clube , or simply Marília or MAC , is a Brazilian football club from the city of Marília in the west of the state of São Paulo, with around 230,000 inhabitants . The club colors are light blue and white. The typical Brazilian club mascot is a tiger , which was chosen in a competition in 1969.

The club was founded on December 14, 1942 as Esporte Clube Comercial . At the time, red and white were chosen as the club colors. Since the name was rather unpopular, it was renamed Marília Atlético Clube on July 11, 1947. On April 19, 1954, the club canceled the football department, which was brought back to life 15 years later on July 7, 1969.

In the first decade of the 21st century, the club was represented in the second national performance level, the Série B , for six seasons . In 2003 and 2005, fourth and fifth place respectively achieved certain respectable successes.

Stadion

The club plays its home games in the Estádio Bento de Abreu , which has a maximum capacity of 17,500 spectators. The full name of the stadium is Estádio Municipal Bento de Abreu Sampaio Vidal , but it is mostly just called Abreuzão by local visitors . The arena is not purely a football stadium; other sports are also practiced there. It was completed on April 4, 1967. The Marília Atlético Clube has rented the stadium, owned by the city of Marília .
