Mara Švel-Gamiršek

Mara Švel-Gamiršek , also Mara Schwell, (born January 3 , 1900 in Sremska Mitrovica , † December 7, 1975 in Zagreb ) was a Croatian writer .

Life

Mara Švel belonged to the Croatian ethnic group of the Schokzen . After completing primary school in her hometown, she attended grammar school in Sušak and then began to study medicine. After the marriage she broke off this and turned to literature as a result.

meaning

Mara Švel began to publish short stories in Matica hrvatska in the 1940s . Her novels , which describe the life of the small, dying Croatian ethnic group, the Schokzen, deserve special interest.
