The marabou Beteiligungs-GmbH , formerly Marabuwerke , is a medium-sized company in the field of screen , digital and pad printing inks as well as creative and hobby paints one of the leading manufacturers. The paint manufacturer employs 325 people in Germany with an export quota of 80 percent, and another 175 in foreign subsidiaries.

History of the company

Marabu was founded in Stuttgart in 1859 by Albert Martz. The initial artist and architect's supply store began producing drawing implements and artist paints in 1870. After the death of Albert Martz Jr., the son of the company founder, in 1905, the company was continued as a limited partnership . In 1909 the brand name Marabu was registered and in 1917 the KG was converted into an open trading company.

In 1919, production with 76 employees was relocated to Tamm, as the original location no longer offered sufficient development opportunities. Finally, a GmbH was founded in 1920 with the managing directors Eberhard and Eduard Martz, which was converted into a stock corporation in 1923 . In 1967 the AG was transformed into today's GmbH. The first subsidiary was founded in France in 1970. Today the Simon and Thorban families each own 50% of the company shares in the fifth generation. A managing partner and two external managing directors are responsible for managing the company.

Marabu produced printing inks for the first time in the 1950s . The screen printing era began for Marabu with the introduction of the Marapid . Today the Swabian paint manufacturer produces products such as Marastar SR , Ultragraph UVAR and Tampatex TPX .
