Marc Chardonnens (2017)

Marc Henri Bruno Chardonnens (* 1960 ; † April 6, 2020 ) was Director of the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) from 2016 to 2020 . Between 2004 and 2016 he was head of the Environment Office at the State of Freiburg .

Live and act

Chardonnens graduated from the ETH Zurich with a degree in agricultural sciences . At the University of Lausanne he completed his postgraduate studies with a Master of Public Administration . Between 1987 and 2004 he worked in what was then the Federal Office for Environmental Protection or Federal Office for the Environment, Forests and Landscape , first as a research assistant and later as a section head in the field of waste management . From 2004 to 2016 he was Head of the Office for the Environment at the State of Freiburg and in this role he was Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Environmental Protection Offices (KVU) from 2011 to 2015. On January 27, 2016, the Federal Council elected Chardonnens to succeed Bruno Oberle as the new Director of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). He took up the position on April 11, 2016. At the end of January 2020, he resigned for health reasons.

Chardonnens lived in Meyriez , was married and had two grown children.
